Karlyn BensonExecutive Assistant, New York
Karlyn Benson worked in museum and gallery administration for twenty years prior to joining AEA in 2013. That same year she opened Matteawan Gallery in Beacon, NY, which specializes in contemporary art by mid-career and emerging artists. As the gallery’s director and curator, she has developed an ambitious program that seeks out highly original work, often with a focus on process and materials.
For six years, Benson worked in the Registrar Department at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, where her responsibilities included arranging the safe transport and installation of artwork for exhibitions. Previously, she was the gallery manager at Candace Perich Gallery, a contemporary photography gallery in Katonah, NY. Benson earned an MA in Art History from the University of Texas, Austin and a BA in Art History from SUNY Purchase.
