Cultural Diplomacy in Denmark: Adrian Ellis gives keynote address at Danish Cultural Ministry event

August 30, 2016

For a small country, Denmark has a remarkable cultural footprint - in film (Dogme 95) and television (especially noir crime series), literature, food, fashion, product design and architecture (think BIG | Bjarke Ingels Group), and in the difficult-to-translate cultural concept of hygge, which means something like coziness.

Adrian Ellis is in Copenhagen this week giving the keynote address to the annual two-day meeting convened by the Danish Cultural Ministry, a gathering of officials involved in all aspects of cultural diplomacy. His theme is Cultural Diplomacy in its Evolving Context: an account of the trends in demographics, leisure patterns, technology, funding and urban planning that are affecting arts production and consumption globally. The talk explores the ways in which these trends present opportunities and threats for Denmark's efforts to promote its cultural identity abroad, as it reviews and refines its objectives for public diplomacy and its strategies for realizing them.
