Luna BuGhanem

Consultant, New York

Luna is a Consultant at AEA, working across strategic planning, concept development, and facilities planning. Her approach draws on an interdisciplinary background in architecture, art, and research to integrate creative thinking from founding philosophy through to day-to-day operations, as well as aligning physical planning moves with strategic ones. She has contributed to strategic planning for the Kurdistan Arts & Culture Center (Erbil), the Design Council of Abu Dhabi, the School of Advanced Research (Santa Fe), and the Royal Drawing School (London), and has led concept development and facilities planning for contemporary art museums in Ahmedabad, Dubai, and Doha. She also contributes to AEA's yearly Cultural Infrastructure Index report, tracking large-scale global capital investments in the cultural sector.

Luna's background includes experience in architecture design studios as well as academic research and teaching. She was a fellow at the Nieuwe Instituut, the MIT Teaching and Learning Lab and Architecture Department, and RISD Research and Architecture Department, where she developed and taught courses on analyzing and visualizing complexity and assessed pedagogical accessibility and inclusivity.

Luna brings a cross-cultural perspective to institutions that are actively defining their own models rather than adapting ones built elsewhere. Within this, she has a particular interest in the role architecture and urban spaces play in shaping institutions, as well as in design fields and their education more broadly.

Luna holds an SMArchS from MIT (summa cum laude), where she received the Schlossman Research Prize, and a BArch and BFA from RISD. She is fluent in English, Arabic, and French.
