Martin Müller
Senior Scientific Advisor, LausanneMartin brings over 20 years of expertise in scientific research, specializing in impact analysis, capital projects, and sustainability strategy. He has developed pioneering models to monitor, manage, and benchmark the economic, social, and environmental impacts of arts and cultural organizations, delivering international state-of-the-art research to a global clientele.
His credo is that the best project is only as good as the rigour of its methodological design and the integrity of the underlying data.
A prominent voice in his field, Martin serves as a frequent expert in debates, specialist journals and international news media. He has published with the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and CiMAM. His work on capital projects and sustainability is frequently cited and reproduced in outlets such as The Economist, the Financial Times, the New York Times, Al Jazeera, and the South China Morning Post.
Following his tenure as Assistant Professor for Culture, Institutions, and Markets at the University of St. Gallen, Martin was appointed Swiss National Science Foundation Professor at the University of Zurich. Since 2017, he has held a professorship in the Department of Geography and Sustainability at the University of Lausanne.
A native of Munich, Martin read for an MPhil in Development Studies at the University of Cambridge and holds a doctorate ‘summa cum laude’ in Human Geography from the University of Frankfurt. He is currently based on the shores of Lake Geneva and is fluent in English, French, German, and Italian, with a working comprehension of Spanish and Russian.
