Victoria Broackes
Senior Associate, LondonVictoria Broackes is a curator and cultural professional with extensive experience in international exhibitions, cultural strategy and innovation. Most recently, she was Director of the London Design Biennale (LDB) at Somerset House, a global showcase of design ideas and thought leadership that convenes ministries, governments, cultural organisations and universities from around the world.
In this role, she developed LDB’s “Eureka” strand to highlight cutting-edge design-led research and innovation from leading research centres, establishing partnerships with institutions such as Chatham House and King’s College London, and oversaw more than 40 biannual projects. She led collaborations with international partners, including work with embassies and Ministries, designers and curators, and speaking and advisory engagements in Qatar, the UAE, Europe and beyond.
Prior to LDB, Victoria worked at the Victoria and Albert Museum, where she was Senior Curator of Theatre & Performance and Head of the London Design Festival at the V&A. She curated some of the museum’s most acclaimed and best-attended exhibitions, including David Bowie is (the most visited exhibition in the V&A’s history, attracting more than 2 million visitors worldwide), Pink Floyd: Their Mortal Remains (2017), and You Say You Want a Revolution? Records and Rebels, 1966–70 (2016).These blockbuster shows fused music, culture and design innovation, reaching global audiences and redefining the role and abilities of cultural exhibitions in shaping public discourse.
Victoria is also an experienced presenter and interviewer, having hosted conversations with figures such as Yoko Ono, Marianne Faithfull and David Bailey, and regularly contributing to magazines, international conferences, catalogues and cultural debate. She has served on juries for international cultural institutions, including the Malta Arts Council and Poland’s Adam Mickiewicz Institute, and lectured in universities and museums worldwide.
Her governance and advisory roles include being a Trustee of Handel Hendrix House, an Alumni member of the Court of the Royal College of Art, and a member of the Court of Assistants of the Goldsmiths’ Company.
Through her work, Victoria has championed design and culture as powerful drivers of inclusion and international dialogue. She is committed to opening up cultural experiences to wider audiences, making them more relevant, engaging and inspiring, across communities and borders.
