AEA evaluated the Knight Arts Challenge, a five-year initiative launched in the Miami-Dade community in 2008 that comprised two parts: three major grants totaling $20 million and a $20 million community-based arts competition. The assessment focuses on the community-based arts portion of the program, evaluating to-date achievements and creating a framework for prospective evaluation.
AEA worked to document the major accomplishments of and lessons learned from both individual grantees and the Challenge overall; analyzed the overall impact of the Challenge on the Miami arts sector; synthesized findings across the portfolio of grantees; and identified and recommended systems for tracking metrics on an ongoing basis. The result of the evaluation were published and presented at the 2012 Grantmakers in the Arts conference.
