Plans for Culture Shed at Hudson Yards Unveiled
February 13, 2013
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has revealed more details about the Culture Shed, a multi-purpose exhibition and performance space designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro based on a concept plan that AEA developed for the Hudson Yards Development Corporation in 2007. The innovative, flexible, 170,000-square foot space will anchor the Eastern Rail Yards site at the northern end of the High Line. It is designed to accommodate a range of cultural and creative uses, including temporary exhibitions, performances, fashion shows, food markets, art fairs, design expos, and, as New York magazine writes, "whatever crazy projects artists, fashion designers, restaurateurs, and performers can think of to fill it." The Culture Shed is scheduled to open in 2018.
